The Section 3 Program continued its support of the Build Hope Inc. (BHI) Scholarship Program through the generous contributions of its partners. The celebration and awards ceremony took place on July 18 at California State University, Los Angeles.

Celebration highlights the creation of 3,000+ local jobs  

2025 Build Hope Scholarship celebrated another year of success. Over 160 youth from HACLA’s public housing communities and Section 8-assisted households received scholarship awards ranging from $500-$5,000. Scholarship recipients, their families, donors, BHI and HACLA staff gathered at California State University, Los Angeles on June 12 to celebrate the deserving students.

November 20th, 2024 - EMCOR Services (Mesa Energy Systems) held an HVAC Informational Session and Training for HACLA’s public housing residents. Led by James Kish and others from EMCOR and Joint Journeymen and Apprentice Training Center (JJATC), the event introduced participants to an HVAC Career.

On June 27, 2024, HACLA held its Twelfth Annual Build Hope, Inc. Scholarship celebration.  The event was held at the California Science Center and was attended by the students, their families, supporters and HACLA staff and Commissioners.

May 2024 – US Bank representatives held a virtual financial literacy training during the Resident Advisory Council (RAC) meeting for the month of May. The presentation, which was led by Susan Bonilla, Amanda Han, and Elizabeth Gomez, focused on Identity Theft and Online Security. The training provided tips on how to identify, prevent, and report identity theft.

On September 27th HACLA hosted a Procurement, Contracting and Section 3 Workshop for existing and potential vendors. The event was well-attended with over 50 current and prospective vendors participating. The Workshop was offered to support small and disadvantaged business contracting.

On July 27, 2023 HACLA held its Eleventh Annual Build Hope, Inc. Scholarship celebration.  A total of 136 students who are entering or continuing their post-secondary education and reside in HACLA communities or are members of Section 8 supported families were awarded a total of $214,000 in scholarships to support their academic success.
